Lilac Fusion Restaurant and Shisha Lounge

This weekend I happened to stumble upon a new restaurant/shisha lounge that has just opened in Amwaj's Lagoon on the 1st floor.  At first I was hesitant to go to a new place because I was craving a good shisha and quick service.  Some how the super friendly manager managed to give me a witty comment back when I told my mom that we aren't going to Lilac and we are going to the shisha place next door. I don't know if it was the ambiance or just the super friendly manager and servers that made me change my mind.

After sitting for a total of 5 seconds we had a server come and ask for our shisha and drink orders.  The shisha's were served within 5 minutes and to my surprise the shisha was light, smooth, and most importantly clean.  I  think far better then the place next door.  A few seconds later we got our drink orders.

Shisha: 2.1 BHD          Lemon with Mint: 2 BHD
If you do decide to eat while you are relaxing at the lagoon.  Lilac provides a large variety of cuisines that are reasonably priced. The servers are still not very familiar with the different types of dishes on the menu. In their defense they did just open I think it will take a bit of time for the servers to adjust.

Shortly after we ordered our main dishes we received a complimentary garlic bread basket with 3 types of dip which consisted of olives, finely chopped seasoned tomatoes, and garlic yogurt.

The food was ready literally 15 minutes after we ordered it.  The service was exceptionally good for a restaurant which has just opened.

I was extremely disappointed with the Meat and Cheese dish you'd think you can't go wrong with a dish so basic but it did go wrong really wrong.  The beef as you can see from the picture was separated from the pastry the beef was extremely hard and tasted a bit off.  The cheese was just flavorless cheese they could've used a cheese that has a bit of a kick to it instead of a very bland cheese for this dish.

The Arayis was average it wasn't bad but it was not the most delicious Arayis I've had in Bahrain.  I wasn't disappointed like the Meat&Cheese Pastry dish.

The dish that I was shocked was good and that could have gone really bad was this reasonably priced 3 BHD mixed sea food dish. The sea food was fresh and well seasoned with a lovely Tumric rice.  We all picked at my mother's dish it was the riskiest dish but the most delicious one.

The view of the terrace in the Amwaj Lagoon is beautiful I highly recommend you go during the day around 4:30 because the sun is about to set and the sunlight is not harsh enough to ruin your relaxing stay out on the terrace.

Rating: from a scale of 1 being terrible and 10 being fantastic I would rate Lilac as an 7.5.  I would definitely go back the shisha was absolutely amazing.

Calligraphy Exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum

The National Museum of Bahrain is holding a beautiful Arabic calligraphy exhibit that showcases some of the worlds most renowned Islamic calligraphers. The pieces are wonderful and the opportunity to be able to see such meticulously crafted work up close and personal is just priceless. Everything is so beautiful, truly the work of highly trained professionals.

Unfortunately, it seems that the exhibition was poorly advertised. None of my friends or family members even knew it was happening which is such a shame.

Overall, the exhibit was breathtaking and absolutely phenomenal. I would suggest to all go check it out before it's too late! After the 25th of December, 2012 the artwork will be shipped off to the owners at the National Museum of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention - it's completely free.

Words can't describe it and pictures don't do justice. Regardless, here are a few pieces that I captured with my camera phone. I'm at a loss for words.

David's Stir Fry Crazy

My father was invited to the opening of David's Stir Fry Crazy Restaurant that has just opened in Adliya.  He suggested we go eat there for a family lunch.  At first I was hesitant because I absolutely dislike Chinese food.  It isn't the cuisine of my choice, but after my dad and mom convinced me I decided to join the family.

As I entered the David's Stir Fry Crazy I thought the decoration was quiet nice for a mid range restaurant.

We were seated immediately and greeted by David himself a lovely Chinese guy who has been living in Bahrain for 20 odd years.  If you look at him you wouldn't believe he's lived in this country for this long because he is very youthful. He was extremely helpful in helping us select dishes off the menu.  I thank God we did listen to him because every dish that came out of that kitchen door was tastier then the next.

Shortly after our orders were taken we were served one of the most delicious Shrimp Tempura I have ever tried. The shrimp was not dipped in regular batter but a sweet potato batter instead. It was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection.

The steamed Dumplings tasted good the inside was soft and the interior tasted good.  Usually my experience with dumplings is that the interior is hard and has absolutely no taste a bit bland.  These dumplings were very good. I paired the dumplings with their chili sauce to add a bit more flavor.

The mains came in at the perfect time right when we managed to digest most of the appetizers. The first dish that came to the table was slowly cooked beef ribs.  The meat was so tender that it melted off the bone.  It was by far the best main dish out of all the other main dishes that came later on.

Slowly Cooked Beef Ribs
The Hamour dish looked a little scary when it was first brought in. Especially since the first thing you see is this Hamour head with a sausage shoved in its mouth.  Putting aside the appearance of the dish this Hamour dish was delicious and very well cooked the sauce complimented the fish completely.  The fish tasted fresh and did not smell "fishy" you know what I'm talking about.
Fried Hamour
The Beef Chili dish was full of flavor in comparison to other Beef Chili dishes I've tried on the island this dish was far more superior than the ones I've had.

Beef Chili
I absolutely love duck dishes anything that stems from duck is something I would love to eat.  This duck dish was good but i would have preferred ordering the crispy duck that comes with the pancakes and plum sauce. The flavor was good and the duck was moist but it wasn't my favorite dish out of all the dishes i tried.

Duck
I have highly recommended this restaurant to all my friends. A few have made a trip to David's Stir Fry Crazy. All of them had a great experience with the food and service.

Rating: from a scale of 1 being terrible and 10 being fantastic I would rate David's Stir Fry Crazy as a 9.  I would definitely take friends and family there.  The prices are reasonable and the quality of food you are getting is very good.

David's Stir Fry is located close to Senior Pacos in Adliya.
